Leaving on a cross country trip in a few weeks. Looking to see if anyone can recommend a decent gps tracking app for my iPhone so those at home can check on my whereabouts during my ride. If it also follows the route so I can check it out when I get home that would be cool too. Thanks in advanc
I use an app called Glympse. It's exactly what you're looking for.
When you install it and start it, it allows you to be tracked for up to 4 hours. You can extend that time as much as you need to. You can send the link to anybody that you want to, so you're controlling who's watching you. If you forget about it, the link expires in 4 hours, and it stops tracking you.
I use it often when I'm on a long road trip, and somebody wants to see my progress.
Find Friends app works fairly well although one that I've used with great success/accuracy is the app Lookout.
Lookout is actually a security app although it allows you to track the phone's location with, what at least seems to be, greater accuracy than some others. It's actually a nice app to have as a terrific backup to the standard Find My iPhone, which has limited features to assist with you recovering your phone anyways.

I use Glimpse also. Love the dang little app. Mostly use it on day rides so the missus can keep up with me.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I just downloaded Glympse. Will this app track my ride or only give pinpoints of where I am at the moment when she checks in?
