I buy and sell on Ebay a lot . I use PayPal also it does protect buyer and seller . As already said read description carefully . Ask seller questions if not sure and check sellers ratings . Most of my transactions selling go smoothly .Buying I have never had a problem. Really a good place to get a deal . One thing I will say the Genuine Harley stuff is Good quality and you really get what you pay for .If the parts you are buying are 1 third the price I would question the quality .Good Luck
I always have good success on Ebay. Just picked up an excellent assortment of Ironhead parts over these past weeks. A complete set of forks in excellent shape for less than $100 shipped!
As with the classifieds here, some people try to recoup every penny they spent (no, I'm not paying you $850 for your $900 shocks), but otherwise one can do very well if one's patient.
One of the things you have to be wary of is the actual price you are paying for the item. I've seen it more than once where someone buys something on Ebay and they pay more for an item than what the retail price is.
Don't get caught up in the auction fever! Sometimes you want that part so bad you can taste it... And you get caught up in it being the first one you've seen in six months... And you pay too much or you forget to check how much shipping would be! LOL (done it myself a time or two)
I've been buying and selling on eBay for a long time. I would say the last bike I bought, between buying and selling parts, I recouped half of the buying price, while completely transforming my bike. I was doing crazy stuff, buying a lot of various items, if I only wanted one. Then, I'd turn around and sell all the other things and make money on the deal. It worked out for me, but I had the time and motivation to do so. I'm also a musician and have bought and sold more guitar crap than I hope my wife ever finds out about! LOL
But seriously, as everyone says, just use common sense, leave the emotions away from the mouse clicking finger and you'll be fine!
Only two problems. One, when I was fairly new to it. Deal in Canada, and I went for the Western Union bs. I did get a cop in the town to go give seller crap. Seller then gave ME a bad rating, on an item I paid for, and was never shipped to me. Another time, PayPal reimbursed me for an item not as described.
My luggage rack/sissy bar and pad, are from Ebay. Probably china made. Still a good piece for $200. Got, a used seat recently. Going to re-sell, not a fit for me. Good seat/good price, might cost me the shipping.
We all put different values on items. Set yours, figure out a "snipe" program and enjoy. As stated earlier, some people are willing to pay too much.
Check seller ratings (ratings as seller - not buyer), inspect pictures very carefully, if the sixth sense is tingling - run. There are deals out there.
Don't connect paypal to a bank account with a significant balance.
All good advice...I have a "paypal" account at the same bank as my regular account...I can go on line and transfer funds as needed...usually keep less than $200 in it.
Never had any real problems buying...except when I broke rule number one above, and bought from someone with questionable ratings...and even then I just filed a dispute... and the seller either stepped up, or paypal refunded my money.
I have had problems selling to the point that I no longer sell on ebay...ebay has skewed the rules to the favor of the buyer... to the point that dishonest buyers can rip you off.

All my bikes I've upgraded/modded with stuff I've gotten from:
*eBay
*CraigsList
*Swap Meets
You can get good, authentic, old school, quality made stuff through those....for bargain prices.
Never bought any mod/add-on for my bikes at the stealership, nor that cheap chinese/taiwan junk.
I have had good success on Ebay..couple of things not right but that was mostly my fault. I put together my entire tour pak system from there.. So far all quality items.
I've had great luck with all three . When I am searching for something, I look at all three every day until one comes along. Bought and sold tons on CL. Local is always easier.
