Down she went
Using the front brake to come to a stop with your handlebars turned off-center is definitely a "no-no" and came pull you over in a heartbeat.
A few years back I was on a trip and stopped for fuel and "comfort stop" and decided to get myself a large cup of coffee to go.
I had one of those chromed, swivel-style cup holders on my bike and I had used it many times for coffee, water and anything non-carbonated.
I put the coffee in the holder, put on my gear and proceeded to the exit to the main street.
As I waited for all cross traffic to clear I slowly pulled towards the street and just as I started to pull onto the street, a car coming from my right moved into the left turn (without a turn signal) and headed into the service station "exit" where I was.
I grabbed the front brake and stopped hard and thankfully I had my handlebars straight and I didn't drop my bike.
However, I did discover that you can't (or should NOT) put a large ( too tall) cup of coffee in a swivel-style cup holder

When I hit my brakes, the full cup of coffee "swiveled" upside-down and there went my full cup of delicious, Columbian flavored coffee onto the ground!!!
A real "bummer" but it was a cheap lesson and all it cost me was less than $ 2.00.

Several years ago we met up with a small group of folks that my wife worked with for the Sturgis rally.
One of the guys wives was riding a small Honda and was a very inexperienced rider and had basically never ridden on hills.
Her husband explained to her to "just keep your RPM's up and you'll be fine".
We were on a ride and on one of the first curves we came to she pulled her clutch in, reved-up her engine and fell over!
If you want to lay your bike over, I'd be happy to pick it up for you. I have no intentions on laying mine over again just to get a picture of me picking it up.

Of course there was a car behind us so in my embarrassed state I just reached down and lifted it up like it was a bicycle (ahh, adrenaline!).
That incident taught me respect for these heavy machines and my lack of skill. Lesson learned, practice, practice, practice!
