When "HD" is on it doubles or triples in price. And what's NOT made overseas?

I hope my bike isn't made overseas or the parts from the Harley dealer.

Your Harley is "assembled" in the good old USA but I hate to break it to you probably 30-40% of Harley bike components are made "overseas" (Asia). Likely it is a higher percentage for accessories. For many vehicle manufacturers it is impossible to get an accurate figure. They use USA part suppliers, and those part suppliers get parts from many foreign sources.

Now Harley Street Series are being made both in the US and India.

It's all based on cheap labor costs.

That's how HD (and many other manufacturers) are able to pass the savings on to the consumers with such low prices for their bikes.

In all honesty, I don't know percentages but he is right, Harley is an American name that has components that aren't made in this country. Also, if a person would take the time to look, a lot of the aftermarket parts that people put on their bikes are foreign made also.

no, it isn't. the streets that are made in india are made specifically for the foreign market and it is based not on labor costs, but import tariffs.

a leather jacket with hd on it is not automatically more expensive than anything else. nor is a jacket made here necessarily a better jacket than the hd version.

don't just parrot the party line about it being more expensive and lesser quality. do your own research. some of the hd leather jackets are very well made, and have a lot of functional features that are not even available on us made jackets. and by the same token, a lot of your us made jackets are very basic shells, with little to no features or extra detailing.

plus, if you're lucky, you can find an hd jacket that you like on the clearance or sale rack. I've seen $800 fxrg jackets go for under $200.

and before you jump on me and start calling me a troll or hd fanboy, I don't have an hd leather jacket. mine is a $150 Pakistani first gear jacket. fits good, unlike the hd jacket that a large is too small and an xl is too big.....

I'll be honest, I love my HD jacket. It's the second one I've owned. The first one I outgrew, but it's still in good shape after year and years. The second one I've had for about ten years, maybe more. The damn thing still looks brand new... There is some minor wear at the cuffs. I've put thousands of miles on it, crumple did up and bungeed it to the bike, worn it off the bike through several winters (not my only coat, but one I'll grab regularly).

Sometimes I'm a little embarrassed by the huge HARLEY DAVIDSON across the back... I hate being thought of as 'buying the lifestyle'. But, these two leather jackets have been some of the best jackets I've ever owned! So I say F' it. And, i wear it with some pride.

I recently needed a new sweatshirt, sans hood, and went looking. I found an HD XXL online. It was black and pretty understated (just has Harley Davidson embroidered across the front in brown, no skulls, no dealership info... clean). I think I paid $17. It is easily the heaviest, toughest fabric sweatshirt I've EVER owned. I don't mean thick, it's actually rather thin, but it's tough, a very tight weave. I wear it riding when it's chilly in the morning and the wind doesn't cut through it.

Most of the clothes I buy end up being made in some Pac-Rim country. I wish they weren't... I think I remember reading Levi's aren't even made int eh US any more. I wish I could afford to completely buy Made int he US stuff... But, I'm just poor working stiff and gotta buy the best quality I can with the money I got. When it comes to riding jackets, I haven't found anything comparable, that fits as well as my Harley clothes.

When my wife needed a new jacket this year, she tried on about a hunnert jackets.... Easily a hunnert! But, when she tried on 'the one' at the Stealership, we both knew she was gonna buy it. It's a beautiful jacket, very tough, thick leather where it needs to be, the right length and width where it needs to be. Yeah, it was expensive. But, let's be honest, if she gets ten years out of it like I have mine, it's good investment.
