Must have been something in the air. I just talked to a guy here at work and two of his buddies went down this weekend as well.

Eh, things happen when you ride. I came up to a stop sign once with lots of traffic. Paying attention to the traffic, did not notice a very small pothole to the right of my bike several inches lower than the rest of the road. Put my right foot down while watching traffic, foot goes down an extra 4-5 inches than what I was expecting, and slowly laid it down. No damage luckily.

Could I have avoided it? Maybe. Thing is, this stop sign was at the end of a street by my work, and I stopped at it every day on the way home. Just so happens, overnight, this hole popped up and I did not notice it. I could take 10 basic riders courses and I'm pretty it would not have kept me from doing what I did.

OK, I'll just say it: too many people on this board either just don't have a clue, OR flat out refuse to take responsibility for their own f*ck ups. You ask, "could I have avoided it?" and then answer, MAYBE? Are you kidding me!? Gee, how about just LOOKING DOWN and not being COMPLACENT? That's what kills people - complacency, and this is a perfect example someone not even recognizing it. How many threads were started just today about the same kind of things...

Then there are the others who chime in and say **** like, "awe, don't feel bad, it happens to everyone, blah, blah, blah". Well NO, if you pay attention, and keep your wits about you, it DOESN'T happen. Do you sympathetic posters think that you're doing the "offender" ANY good at all by glossing over the mistake/s he/she made? You're actually doing him/her an injustice by excusing actions/behaviors that in no way should be excused, when you're riding on 2 wheels. If your child ran into the street and almost got hit by a car, would you say, "Oh it's ok sweetie, don't feel bad, we all do that now & then"?? NO, you'd make it a teaching opportunity so that your child learns something from it... wouldn't you?

Well this thread title sure was misleading. I thought it was going to be helpful tips to increase the pleasure of the lady in your life. I was all set to print it off for my boyfriend to read. Oh well, better luck next time I suppose.

Sid if your chest still hurts tomorrow maybe you should stop by your doctors office just to be on the safe side.

Damn dude, or dudette...who ruffled your a$$le$$ chaps. Yes...**** happens and OP was pretty bold to post his mistake, but pull back on the harsh-meter a bit. BLUF...people make mistakes + they learn = life goes on.

I am always ready to demonstrate!! Just because I can lick my eyebrows, and have a hole in the back of my neck that I breathe from, doesn't mean I can't show you a couple new tricks!!

I did close to the same thing last Thanksgiving. Had to ride home in the dark for half an hour imagining all the damage I was going to see when I finally pulled into the garage and got the light on. Ended up having to replace the clutch perch $45 that was it! Glad you're OK, I broke a toe (in steel towed boots), must have jammed it against the toe of the boot. What saved me I think was the fact that unlike you, I didn't clear the bike and got hung under it (my leg between the bike and the pavement - thank god it's just a Dyna, might have spent the whole night there had it been anything larger). Oh yea, whatever the drop did, I had to enter the code to start the bike as the fob wouldn't do it's thing. I had completely forgotten how to do that, but the iPhone and Google saved the day....er, night.

Glad your OK. It was also good to watch the gentleman in the pickup stop, get out, check to see if you were OK and help you pick your bike up. Lot of folks these days would have just driven around you.. or worse yet over you. Nice to see there's still a few good folks out there.

I want to know what language you were speaking right after the fall (at about the 24 second mark) . I must have watched it 5 times with the volume jacked up and couldn't understand a word of what you were saying. With a couple of bruised ribs and a sore chest, maybe you got the wind knocked out of you?
