Check ur ignition switch connections I had an 01 sporty that would do the same thing întermittently wound up being ign switch from running with my keys on my keyring caused it to internally short out, see if anything changes when u move ur key back n forth while (not running first then running down the road), if it's running see if it changes anything. It was a real "female dog" (bit*h) to find when it began cuz of intermittently & frequency ........
NOTE: Don't run ur sporty with more than just ur ign key on the ring lol 😎

Im thinking it is the ignition, i had the bike running checking a few things then i turned it off and wiggled it. The ignition was very loose.. i then turned the key and nothing happened.. No power at all.. gonna pop in a new ignition and cross my fingers
BOTH ends of BOTH cables? Loosen and re-tighten.
The odometer flickering is a strong indicator of a flaky electrical connection.
+1.
The battery cables can appear to be snug and good, but I have found your problem is most likely caused by an intermittent grounding issue. Personally, I would remove both ends of the battery cables, wire brush them well, coat with dielectric grease, and reattach snugly (I'd go tighter than torque specs call for if you've got a torque wrench). The battery's ground cable on our Sportsters are notorious for wreaking havoc with all kinds of weird problems.

I'll do this anyways even if it's not the issue, it will atleast eliminate any issues in the future.

Let's us know how that works.
One other thing I neglected to mention when the ignition module started acting goofy on my wife's Low was it only seemed to do it when the bike was warmed up.
i am having this exact same issue with my 1996 fatboy, i loose power while riding, the anolog speedometer drops to zero, the digital tach turns off, and bike sputters like its going out of gas, i am guessing from no spark in the plugs?
so far i have tested the battery to show 12.5 volts
while the bike is running goes up to 14.0
i have tightened the ground and power cable tight! i have not cleaned with a wire brush both ends but will do so..
i have wiggled ignition cant cause the problem to occur.
i took off the ignintion cover on top of the tank off turned upside down and wiggled the wires and i cannot cant the problem to re-occur.
i am frustrated and puzzled,,
i am going to replace the main 30 amp breaker
adter that i was planning to check the starter for a bad ground.

I have a friend who spent a boat load attempting to figure out this symptom on his sporty. Old Harley wrench told him to change the ignition module. Problem solved. It worked for me as well.
Just sayin...
