I'm a new HD rider and have a like new 2013 iron, with 34xx miles. Unfortunately I wasn't able to ride it for about a week and a half and when I tried to start it up to go for a ride the battery was dead. I do not have the alarm system so was kinda surprised about this.. Is this normal? Thank you in advance.
If I get it started(jumped?) and ride it, will that charge the battery enough to keep it going? Thanks!
Nope. The rate of charge is too fast and will only provide a surface charge.
What you can do is put it in a battery charger then afterwards get it load tested.
Since it is three years old, it is probably dead though. Some people get 8 years out of a battery but 3 years is the norm especially if a tender is not used.
Odds are 50/50. If you jump it off and get it running take it to a dealer or Indy shop and have the battery and charging system checked out.
Then as advised get a tender.
