**** Poor Prep work prior to paint application.

Moisture in the system during application of paint (Moisture bubbles under the paint)

Get the tank repainted or better yet everything if you can afford it. Will look great and you can have any color you want!

I agree with Coastal CVO. Get a magnet to see if its not been repaired.

In the mean time while you decide how to deal with this issue, just dab the chips with a black sharpie to minimize the flaws. Old car show trick when you get to an event and find a chip in the paint. I've used a blue sharpie on my hot rod at a show and the judges never saw it.

Thanks for the replies. If I keep the bike (trying to decide between 1250 kit vs just getting a different bike) I'll get the tank repainted.

Going to try some black wax to see if it helps a little bit.

It's a Sportster ride it for the summer then you will want to trade it for a bigger bike. LOL
could not resist that one. I still own a sportster and have fun riding it now and then. Definatly do something to cover up the spots to prevent rust.. If it were me I would have the tank painted during the off season if you have one.

You sure you weren't riding around with a mini foot long get back whip? 😁

Looks like gas spilled on it.
Previous owner did a quick squirt just to get it sold and the paint ate right off when you bought it.

Sharpies do work. If you touch up with paint it looks like zits all over it.
Colored wax may help hide as well.
