I get it that delays happen, and sometimes quoted times don't match up. the only thing I was asking was if it was really true that the dealerships have no way of knowing anything about when an ordered part will be in. we have technology that lets most of us track things like this in the modern era... I also don't see anywhere in this thread where I was "bitching" about them not being able to nail down a date, I did say it was weird, but I would hardly call that "bitching".

yes, it's really true that the dealership has no way of knowing anything about a painted part. your parts will get painted when they switch over to that color and they'll do a whole batch of stuff. if they had just done your color, before your order came in, they'll they'll have to go through the whole cycle before it comes up again. that's why they tell you 2 - 6 weeks. just depends on where in the cycle they are.
