insurance company decided not to total my bike and pay for all new tins at the stealership price, I called them to see if they had any updates for me, and they said they have no way of tracking painted parts/getting me a definitive lead time on how long it will be. that sounds pretty outlandish to me, is that really so?
My saddle bag took about 4 weeks from the time I ordered it to the time it was shipped to me. It's not like the factory grinds things to a screeching halt and switches over paint when they get a special request. They work that stuff into whatever else they have going on paint wise, and it gets scheduled. One of the downsides to offering thousands of different paint combos over the decades.
I don't blame your dealer for being a bit vague on something they have absolutely no control over- If they give you a specific date and it gets missed, customer gets all worked up. And you seem a bit primed for a confrontation, based on you calling them thieves.
lol, I call all dealerships stealerships, as a joke... It's more just weird to me that they have no way of knowing when anything will happen, seems as though the paint shop would have better communications with the dealerships when they place an order.
HD does painted parts in batches. So the lead time can vary based on how long it takes to get a full batch together. When I asked about a painted full fender for my Street Bob I was told anywhere from two to six weeks.
back in 2009 i had a 2009 lowider i went down the dealer had to get a new gas tank for me i think like 3 months it was just black harley painted parts take for every good luck buddy

First, I don't get the joke, but it doesn't matter.
There's too many variables how quickly the factory can complete paint jobs. Other pending batches, short on manpower, robot is down, bad batch of paint, etc. There no way to tell you exactly when you'll receive your painted parts. That's just how it is. I'm really not seeing what is so weird about that.
Your bitching because they can't nail down a date for you. If they gave you a date and you didn't receive it, you'll be on here posting how they suck because they didn't get your parts to you when they said. It will likely take a few weeks.
They don't stop what they are doing because a customer from Chasn put an order in. Just sit back and take it easy. The dealer will call you when the painted parts are received.

wow, I didn't think my initial post was nearly as abrasive as it has been taken by you guys... jesus.
I get it that delays happen, and sometimes quoted times don't match up. the only thing I was asking was if it was really true that the dealerships have no way of knowing anything about when an ordered part will be in. we have technology that lets most of us track things like this in the modern era... I also don't see anywhere in this thread where I was "bitching" about them not being able to nail down a date, I did say it was weird, but I would hardly call that "bitching".
i would order custom tins off eBay, or another dealer, a whole n'other set would be easier than waiting on a specific paint color.
yeah, painted parts from the MoCo are beset by a LOT of variables.
FWIW, I damaged one of my hard bags, I just put a search on eBay, and one came up 6 months later, swapped them out,
then sold my damaged bad (slight scuff) to someone who had crushed their whole bag. was out like $40 by the time it was over.
so, just go shopping & find a set of tins, be easier than waiting on OEM colors.
I am waiting on a tank.....so blame me because I was ahead of you, and I had them re-do it several times. LOL Luckily, I had a broken leg so can't ride it anyway.
