I see a lot of different posts about ways to fight heat. Headers, exhaust, electronic boxes, fans, oil coolers…….....exc. I was told the 96/103…. ran hotter than the 80/88’s. I really under stated (estimated) that to myself, just did not grasp it until I experienced it. I am lucky in the fact I live in a relatively cool area, so it’s less of a problem (95% of the time it’s not, maybe more).
With all that said this bike is just a stepping stone for what I hope will be my last bike. Was close to buying the “last bike” but the wife’s kitchen hasbeen on hold for too long (we won’t go there some times its easier to keep the piece than live with the fall out).
When I retire I plan on moving to a warmer/dryer state, withhopefully less traffic. So my “last bike” will be a wet head Rushmore, but I digress.
From my understanding and experience the rear cylinder/exhaustis the biggest heat source correct?
1st If this is true why is there not a fan that blows on the rear cylinder/exhaust and is not so visible? With the exhaust moving under the frame there is room at the back of the cylinder and would detract less. Just wondering if anyone has looked at or tried this before I go jumping off the deep end and look at fabbing something up and trying it(could be a fun winter project, once the kitchen is done).
2nd Is a box that changes the fuel mixture (notso lean) on a stock bike enough to cool it down for most of that other 5% of the time? Trying not to start replacing a bunch of parts on a bike I will hopefully only have for 2-4 years.

I have a Dyna, and I don't really have a problem with heat from the engine. Now, when I was on Sportsters and Softails, that's another story. But that's because the oil tank is right under the seat.
You know I've read this a lot and was really concerned about it when I got my 16 RK. I installed the plastic heat shields ( std equip on the Ultras) and supposedly the dealer did a remap of some kind due to the slipons (nothing in the paperwork to show this but the salesman said they did).
I have ridden this bike now in all kinds of temps and this just really isn't much of an issue. I live in the desert so I've been in some stop and go traffic with temps in the high 90's low 100's and it isn't any more uncomfortable than my old evo. Certainly it's hot but you are sitting on top of the engine after all. I get some heat off the front exhaust if my foot gets real close to it but other than that I have no complaints at all in this area.
The rear cylinder disable thing is turned off as well, never used it.
Regarding fix #1, that's essentially what EITMS does [only internally];
Regarding #2, I had a noticeable decrease in heat [not a miracle, but an improvement] with installation of a Power Commander V and a dyno tune with fuel enrichment across the entire RPM range.
I am comparing it to my 01 FLHT 88 and I can tell with in a few minutes of starting the bike. Previous owner put CVO gauges with engine oil temp and it has not gone past mid way. But this motor gets hot quick and radiates it. Not uncomfortable to ride so far, but I have yet to be stuck in heavy traffic (I am close to work). So far this year our summer is a bust, spring was much nicer. This bike has the deflectors you mentioned and it also has one between the front shocks (that I am told is a nice addition). Maybe I am worried about something that will not happen, but with low 70 deg temps and as warm as she gets already I can see high 80 to 90's running HOT. As far as the motor and exhaust she is rock stock. It does have the rear cylinder shut off and it feels like it is working.

Is that the rear cylinder shut down?
I can twist the throttle forward and it turns on (or shuts down).
