hitting the sheep would have been worse, it's like hitting a brick wall, you'll be sore for a few days but at least you are still around to talk about it, the bike can be fixed.
Up and around this morning. Feel like I lost in an *** kickin contest but other than that I'm fine. Now I'll see how good (or not)my insurance company are, they've had my premium for years, lets see how quick they ante up!
So, fine afternoon, day off work, took a ride across beautiful scenic hills & moorland about 15 miles from home and doin a leisurely 40/45mph. There are a lot of sheep out here and it's unfenced so I'm being real careful.A lamb appears from behind it's sleeping mother and runs into the road, I hit both brakes, the rear wheel locks up and slides right, I steer into the slide and the rear now kicks out to the left and I steer into the slide again, the bike now highsides me and I land on my *** and slide down the road half sitting up! No way could I mow a lamb down. Now here's the part that's almostunbelievable, my Wrangler jeans aren't even torn, my leather jacket ain't scuffed, not a mark on my gloves or helmet but my *** hurts ( subsequent examination of same reveals a big red burn peppered with burst blood vessels). The bike has not fared so well - both SE II's badly scuffed, footrest bent, rear axle bolt almostground off, left rear turn signal and mountinggone, handlebars slightly skewed and rubber grip ground away. On the bright side the tins are unmarked, engine cases are fine and the forks don't appear to be twisted. Got back on her and rode home cussing all the sheep in Christendom! Lessons to be learned from this? No not really, just wanted to share the experience! I live to ride another day - once the bike has been fixed!
Come on over, we can walk together. Crashing just sucks. I am glad you weren't hurt and the repairs sound like they will be simple. Look on the bright side at least your tins didn't get harmed. My tank and front fender did and it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get new ones from Harley.
Thanks for the good wishes guys. Funny thingI was real calm, didn't shake me up at all, which surprised me, I was more concerned about the bike and if it would start and get me home as I was out in the willywags. Once I realised it would startand run I sat on the side of the road and had a cigarette and thanked my lucky stars it hadn't been worse - I was in one piece, what more can you ask?The only after effect wasnot being able to get to sleep last night, kept running the scenario over and overin my head. My wife (Ellen) took a look at my butt this morning when she got in from work and said it wasn't a pretty sight, well I guess it never is, her's is much nicer!! Just waiting for the insurance co to get back to me with collection details. Guess I'll invest in some Kevlar armoured jeans before I ride again, I don't think I could be that lucky twice.
