- Use a piece of sheepskin on your seat
- Powder your butt with baby powder or Monkey Butt powder
- Wear moisture wicking compression shorts
- Work on tightening your glutes
- Replace stock seat with a touring saddle
In all the years I've been riding, I've only had monkey butt once. It was on a long cross country trip and after the third rain storm of the day. Lasted about 3 days before it was comfortable to ride again. It was definitely the swamp butt that caused the problem, not the saddle.
"Sore" As in surface of the skin, or the muscles in your butt?
Skin rash fixes have already been mentioned. If it's a deeper pain, consider a new sheet. Mustang is good. I like the Harley police seat. Also consider a (real) sheepskin cover.
I tried a gel pad this morning, it was about 3/4" thick. Within less than 5 minutes I pulled over and took it off, I was already starting to feel numb. Also, the thickness of the pad lifted me up enough that I was no longer able to contact the little back support section of my seat. So I'm scratching gel pads off the list of things to try.

What's the deal with sheep skin? How thick is it?
That's the way I felt with the AirHawk. Some people swear by 'em, but I tried both (AirHawk and sheepskin) and much prefer the fur...
I'd recommend Alaska Leather - they have different lengths, styles, colors, etc. You can get them long, sheared, natural - I originally had the black sheared model and liked it a lot, but so did my dog...long story short, I ordered another one in a longer nap and it's even better. Here's from their website:
Sheared Buttpads are more efficient for cooling and comfort because they pocket more air. They have a more finished look and take up less space when stowed (1" fleece) Long Hair Buttpads are long and shaggy (1.5" to 3" loft). They are thicker and may boost you up in the seat. Natural Buttpads are available in sheared and long hair varieties. They cost more than the dyed varieties and are not always available because they are only tanned in small batches. Each pelt is unique, ranging from light cream to spots to browns and grays.
