Default axle conversions

2013 Fat Boy Lo, I have a new front end for it. It came with a 3/4" axle. How big a deal is it too convert the 25mm axle to a 3/4. I have read that its not that big of a deal. Wondering what you guys think.

It isn't difficult. I put 2015 wheels on my '06 Deluxe. The back wheel was pretty involved because of the hub width, but the front was easy. Spacer bushings. I made mine on my lathe. So at worst, you're looking at having some made at a machine shop. I'd imagine that there are retail options.

I made mine so that the spacer and bushing were a single piece. It extended past the bearing to keep the center spacer centered too.

Converting the axle isn't the issue just find a used 1" axle at an indy shop and have a local machine shop spin it down to 3/4" I've done this a few times using later frontends on old shovels with 3/4" bearing wheels. What you will have to do is figure what spacers you'll need to center things correctly, isn't a plug and play deal.

Are you going to use the later wheel with bigger bearings or an earlier with the smaller bearings?

What i have is a '13 FLSTFB with a 25mm front axle. My new front end comes with a 3/4 axle. I think I found a kit to do the conversion. seems pretty simple. However you bring up a good point as to spacing. What is the best way to figure out the spacers? The original assembly was completely ****ed. No way to take any real accurate measurements.

Stock wheel for what the 13 or the 3/4" setup ? If the wheel is off the 13 it has the bigger bearings so what you would need instead a new axle is what's call bore reducers, these slide into the 25mm bearings and lets you use the 3/4" axle. They come in a number of configurations and act as spacers also.

why would anyone want to use the 25mm bearings ? they are junk. i would try and figure out a way to use the 3/4 bearings. you will have a better bearing in there if it can be done. this is where a bearing supply house comes in handy.
