I would try acetone on cold pipes of course.

At least she was trying to help. Better than her "accidently"backing into it with the family cage.

It might sound funny, but quadruple aught steel wool works like a champ! It's too fine to scratch the surface of the chrome, but abrasive enough to get stuff off.

You can generally find the stuff in bags at Walmart, but make sure the bag has 0000 on it.

Yup. Had some boot rubber (a big ol' spot) on my pipes a few years ago, and a buddy told me about the 0000 steel wool. I let the rubber burn off for a day or two, then a light rub with the 0000 worked like a charm.

Here's my idea. Drag her (your wife) out to the garage after you come back from your next ride. Grab any one of her appendages (arms and legs should do fine), and press it up against the exhaust....preferably over the same spot that the cover melted. Her melting skin may cover up some of the melted cover...making it more difficult to see the ugly melted plastic/whatever the cover is made of. Just a thought. Of course, then you might have a whole new set of problems

Show your wife this thread and tell her there are some pretty good ideas here how she can get that back off.

J/K

It was an honest mistake. Bet she doesn't do it again though.

Goo gone, oven cleaner etc. might work on scuff marks from your boots etc. but it will take for ever for it to breakdown plastic/vinylenough to get it off. Steel wool will just put minute scratches in the chrome.

Take a wal-mart or similar plastic bag and fill it with ice. Tape it or hold it directly on the melted plastic/vinyl for about 15 or 20 min. Remove it and just use a plastic paint scrapper or your finger nail to scrap it off. If you get it cold enough it should chip right off.

This was posted a while ago. Sounds like a good idea. http://www.amazon.com/FAULTLESS-BON-.../dp/B000BPEPJG

If it cleans a hot iron, I guess the key is to have it hot and to not spray on the pipe but on the cloth or whatever you use to clean.

Let us know how it works. And remember, It is supposed to look like a Harley.
