I have a problem. I have a relative who doesn't ride over 45mph. I have neglected inviting this relative on rides because honestly he takes the fun out of my own riding.

This relative bought a bike a couple months after I did because he wanted to ride with me. But it's been 6 months and he has already expressed he won't be riding any faster. We have a 100 mile trip planned for tomorrow and someone else invited him. I'm thinking about not going because I hate slowing other people down because one person out of our group will not run the speed limit.

I love this man but if you can't ride at least the speed limit then your *** doesn't need to be on 2 wheels.

I'm so sick of this. What am I supposed to do?

Cut out a piece of cardboard and stick it over his speedometer. Tell him to just keep up, one to two seconds behind the bike in front.

I've stopped riding with slow riders, if they can't keep up at the speed limit or 5mph over I'm not doing it any longer. Learned my lesson it's not fun and it can be dangerous, they need to keep up with traffic speeds. I'm assuming you're talking about highways where the speed limit is 60 and over? I have no desire to be run over by an 18 wheeler.

Ride your ride, let him catch up at designated stops.

Let your relative know that has slow riding puts others at add'l risk, and that you will no longer be a part of it.

That, or have him ride the "Big" Island in Hawai'i as they don't go faster than 45mph on the island. In fact, it's mostly 35mph.
10 hours riding time, for 250 miles...

Far be it for me to criticize someone else's riding style, but what is so magical about 45mph that he can't or won't go any faster? Of course it's his bike, his ride but you have every right to decline to ride with him.

Don't do that. You do not want him driving out of his comfort zone for a 100 mile trip. Just tell him he cannot go.

You have two options...

You can tell him he cannot go.
or
You can tell him he can go and you will ride with him at his speed.

If you tell him he can go but he has to keep up you will be putting his life in danger. And if anything happens it will be with you the rest of your life.

Go hang out at his house and play checkers for an hour or two and then go ride by yourself.

I have had to deal with slow riders a few times....It goes like this, At the first gas stop, I tell them where the next gas stop is and then I go.
If they show up at the next gas stop, cool...if not, I go on about my business and never give them a second thought.
