I was out for a picture perfect ride. There was a detour due to a tractor trailer that turned over and it was a zoo...cars coming from every direction and nobody knew where they were going. I was behind a black SUV that went straight as I turned right to get on the highway on-ramp. The guy in the black SUV changed his mind and made a horseshoe left. He bumped me, I went down on the right side and his back wheel (I think) rolled over my bikes front tire (Not the wheel apparently), but just the tire and it split the tire.
I have a pretty bad case of road rash on my right arm, hand, knee, and some on my left ankle. Fortunately I got my leg clear so the bike didn't fall on it. My handle bar was bent to the tank, tank is damaged pretty badly and the emblem was torn off. My front and rear blinkers were broke off and the right brake peddle is bent. V&H pipes are also damaged. Forks and wheel seemOK but wewill see after an inspection.
I called Harley roadside assistance and they could not help (completely worthless). They called 45 towing companies and nobody would come out on a holiday. Finally an independentwas coming by and asked me if I needed help. He only charged me $125 totow me to my dealer (30 miles) and then I hitched a ride with him backclose to my home where my wife and son picked me up. I left the bike at the dealer with a note on it.
LEO's were fantastic. The chief rides and it was his day off but he was passing and helped me move the bike. He had his HD vest on. Ambulance treated me and a fire truck was passing and stopped to clean up the gas that I was laying in. Many bikers stopped to help. The police came by three times to see if I was OK while I was waiting for a tow. As I waited there were two more accidents on the ramp. One was a head on collision between two cars. The other one was a rear ending ofanother car. I was a wicked, crazy intersection with mass confusion.
Now get this. While people were helping me up, the guy that hit me took off!! Nobody got his licensenumber.
I am OK, thank God. Just a little shook up and bruised.

Wow! The best part is that you're gonna be ok but that sentence right there is the one that makes my blood boil. Did he stop at first?
Where did this happen?
Hang in there, let us know how your bike winds up.
SS
What a crappy day!! Glad you are ok... and the bike will get fixed.
I think about this kind of thing fairly often. I stopped riding when my daughter was growing up, and just got back into the sport a year ago (and loving it more than I did as a kid). There are some situations which you just have no control over.
Anyway, sorry to hear about this, but the main thing is no permanent injuries.
Can't believe it about roadside assistance - I've always assumed they would be there if I had a problem. Didn't know that "we can't" was a potential answer.
DenimStreet,
Glad you are ok, that is the main thing. The bike can be fixed, and the other driver will get his (yes there is karma).
My wife and Ialso went down a couple of weeks ago, (left turning cagers) and as we have both said many times over since then...."It could have been so much worse" (and she is going to be out of work for at least 6 - 8 weeks to heal).
Wow ! glad you are ok ! Anytime you get by with slight road rash and some bike damge........YOU MADE OUT PRETTY GOOD !.....Even though that surely do'nt make it feel any better......Hope they catch that clown !
