I really wanted the Carlini bars, but went with Wild Ones for that very reason. glad I did. Your results may vary...

Speaking of splitting lanes, (I've never done it), I was sitting in Chicago and Milwaukee traffic yesterday and thinking, How the heck do guys do it? There wouldn't be enough room between cages to thread my bike.

Hehehe....I think the same thing. In some places around here I would scared to try it unless on the side of the road. Some places here the roads are so tight that two cars and a semi are too close for confort.

Wouldn't that measurement be tip to tip, I'd think you would subtract about 8" for actual hand position. bout 33" center to center of the grips. Give or take an inch or two.

^^^ I don't know any company that measures their bars like that. Also, with the switch housings and grips installed the bars will be wider.

Look at the Khromewerks site. They have illustrations of their bars with all measurements.

Properly installed controls will increase overall width, by maybe an inch, but, do you hold the end of the grip when you ride?

So how do the manufacturers measure the bars? Seem pretty simple to me when I ordered my bars.

I can measure mine tonight. I can get edge to edge and where the buttons are centered. I cam also take a picture with the factory next to them for reference.

They are "not" that much wider.

That would be great. I've measured my stock bars and they are something like 33" end to end, which is quite a big difference compared to carlinis 41" end to end.
