Engine failure
Sorry for your bad luck, the mileage seems a bit low for such a failure. I have had some higher expense repairs happen "IN" warranty and took it upon myself to repair with parts superior the HD and have been proactive in others and now have what I consider a more dependable machine. I enjoy my 2008 RK and 2012 Limited too much to surrender to inferior parts. Have I more invested than I should, probably, but I also feel I have better and more dependable and enjoyable machines than I can go out and buy for the same money. I don't know how you went about repairing or replacing the engine but you may have missed a chance to go beyond the standard dependability and start from the bottom up with a welded/balanced crank and better bearings then build on that. I've turned wrenches my entire life on all kinds of mechanical things and I always try to improve things to the point where that particular failure won't happen again. Good luck.

There is a great deal of nostalgia with respect to Harley Davidson's. They take us back to a more simpler time. Unfortunately that simpler time includes **** poor old fashioned engineering and manufacturing.

Strange happenins here this Christmas day. Nice first post. A scissoring issue on a stock 96 is kinda hard to swallow... assuming its stock. And of course we should all expect manufactures to cover everything after warranty has long expired.

The "Holidays" can amp up stress levels for anyone. Seems as though you were coping with this issue quietly since this past May. Since it is now late December, your post begs the question: So what did you do about your engine? Hopefully, you have a new engine in the bike, and are looking forward to the Spring and some good riding. Best wishes, don't let it get you down.
