I had good looking aluminum covers on my '78 XLCH. The trick to keeping them looking good was to wash the bike with the engine cold. About once a month, I'd give then a quick going-over with Simi-Chrome. I think polished aluminum looks a lot better than chrome.
(They also carry a Honda cleaner that's safe for all painted parts. Spray on and rinse off, works great for a total quick wash of the bike).
Eeeek, did you just say you use HONDA cleaner on a Harley.....on HDF!?JK.When I worked at a dealership years ago,I used the HondaBrite on my MX bike all the time(courtesy of the shop),and that stuff is the ****!Spray it on and wash it off.Cleaned all the gunge off easy peasy. No residue, good stuff.
Been using Gunk engine cleaner since the 70's or so....on car engines, truck engines, boat engines, the bikes a couple of times. But usually use Pig Spit on the bikes...after a cleaning with carb cleaner.
http://simplegreen.com/products/extr...ner-degreaser/ I apply this first & use a sponge, soft wheel/rim brush where possible & soft tooth brush for hard to get places. Make sure you hose it off real good. Then I use the S100 bike cleaner & finish the bike with a good car wash. I use a Air Shammy to dry off the bike. I like the Pig Spit because it sprays on easy & it wipes off the chrome easy. It doesn't last as long as the HD brand, but the HD stuff doesn't lay down as good & it's a bitch to get off the chrome. Good luck.
