Default Question RE: Road King Custom

Should a belt replacement lead to the need to replace the stator and rotor for a 2004 Road King Custom? Any thoughts?

Why on earth would replacing a belt require replacement of the Stator?

I doubt it, but on a 13 yr old bike, a stator might need replacement at the same time just out of coincidence.

Among the steps to replacing the belt is removing the inner and outer primary. That's the point where a good mechanic would notice it, and tell you, so you don't wind up having to go back in there again a couple months from now. I have replaced bearings, seals, swingarm bushings, and the shift rod on the tranny for the same reason.

I would be thinking that under the circumstances, he's on top of things.

You have to pull the primary to replace the belt, but I suspect you know that. If that stator is going bad, there can very well be signs of it when a tech pulls the primary. The most obvious would be the burnt smell that could suggest the failing stator. And like pretty much EVERY tech, the last thing he wants to hear is....."it was fine when I brought it here ", when there are obvious signs that was NOT the case, once the primary was opened up. Not saying don't shop around, just ask questions.

While your in there, Replace what needs to be replaced, Saves you money on labor in the long run....
And always replace rotor and stator at the same time....
