I broke my left ankle and dislocated my right knee in a dirt bike accident when i was 14. I was racing a friend downhill, the track turned from dirt to gravel road to tarmac and everything else was a blur
The rehab on the ankle was quite slow,i broke the bottom off my tibia and cracked my fibula. after the surgery my DR told me NOT to baby it, so it wouldn't be so stiff after it healed. it still gets sore 25 years later.
the knee was the worst though, i tore my MCL and ACL and my knee cap was off to the right of my thigh.. it was very sore, actually makes my knee ache to think about it
I was on crutches for 6 months, and nearly 18 months before i could ride again.

That sounds awful. I expect I'll be riding within the month. It's been alost 8 weeks since the accident and I'm only really worried about if I had to support the bike at a stop. Not going to push it, haha. I'll give myself a couple weeks of walking before I try to ride. Good thing I've got some things to wrench on before the bike is rideable.

yeah, honestly the knee hurt worse than the ankle, it felt like the leg was hanging loose but at the same time squashed in a vice grip.
but on the bright side, noone has ever bitched at me for not running a marathon.
Yeah, duck walk that bike around for a bit so you know you can support it well enough, nothing would suck more than putting your weakfoot down on a oilspot/slick spot and slip with that weight on it.

Did they put you on any pain meds?
Yeah, I had a rx for perc and dilaudid, but quit taking them because of OIC. I don't have much pain anymore.

Yeah, that OIC is a really pain in the ***.
I take alot of oxy and norco for a nerve issue and OIC really plugs you up... MMJ oil helped though.
Glad to hear you don't need them anymore... i found that they didn't really help the bone pain too much.
Man, thats a great recovery time. are you doing any physical therapy? I was in a forklift accident about 17 yrs ago. completely shredded the ligaments and tendons in my right ankle and shattered the 5th metatarsal. after surgery I was down for 6 months total. my right calf is still noticably smaller than my left from the attrophy of sitting for so long. physical therapy is the only reason I can walk without a limp most days. 1st time at the phys ed place, they hurt me so bad, it was all I could do to not punch him in the mouth. get a figure 8 brace, once your fully back on your feet. Mine has allowed me to do a lot of "iffy" things without worry

The Dr hasn't said anything about physical therapy, but I've been doing things at home to bring my range of motion back to normal, and to make up for atrophy.
So, I the Dr released me to go about my normal business on Monday. I've been walking without the boot since then, and feeling ok. Took a ride earlier in the week and everything was fine. There's still a little pain/discomfort occasionally, but it's not bad. Ready for the Manhandle the Panhandle chopper run this weekend!

i fractured my wrist while doing jiu jitsu...thought id just sprained it so i continued to go to classes and use it. Wound up messing it up way more and wss in a cast for 6 weeks...took about a year for it to fully heal to where i can use it for anything and not one bit of pain. Still though, i will feel pain in it for unknown reasons...its still not 100% the way it was before it happened.
