I have the best garagedoor opener a man can get and the second best as well. Never fail, always reliable and no batteries to change. Number one is called; "my wife and backseat buddy" and number two is called 'me'. My Harley never went through the garagedoor without opening due to a failure or the automatic opening mechanism. Or closes down unexpectedly due to the remote TV control of my neighbour.
Is there a proximity-based app for cell phones? It would be cool to have your door automatically open if your phone is close enough to connect to your home wifi.
On my android phone, I have an app called AutomateIt. I have it setup so that when I get close to home after work, it sends a text to my kid to put the dogs out (wife works from home and is on the phone sometimes).
With the location based trigger, you could have it launch a shortcut. Assuming the garage door app has a way to make a shortcut to open/close the door, this could be done for sure. I don't have a connected garage door, yet, or I would test this for you
None of the new door garage door openers will work with the Harley opener. There are some threads here about it here. What I did was purchase another remote and solder the leads from HD opener to the switch on the opener and placed by the garage opener. When I hit my high beam switch, the bike sends the signal to th HD receiver, HD receiver closes the switch (just as you had press the remote switch) and the remote then sends the rolling code to the opener.
