Default statistic's question

This is part of a debate from another site I hang out in... Can anyone here provide information on bike accidents and who's fault by precentage? Just courious...

Thanks Ben

Do you have any stats to back this up? In my experience it's about 50/50.

Although it is over 20 years old, still seems extremely relevant today. Everyone should read this, or at least part of it like I did.

Read the HURT report- We have had 5 bikers die in my county in the past 2 weekends and all 5 of them were- according to CHP reports_ at fault. 2 misnegiotated curves went over yellow crashed into cars. 1 going 90 in 25 mph zone lost control on curve went into utility box, other 2 brother and sis on sport bike speeding on freeway when CHP went after them the rider took freeway ramp too fast lost it went 75 feet over the side and splattered himself and his sister in a restaurant parking lot. Several accident reports daily on the CHP website of bikers down. CHP officer friends tell me it is mostly due to excesive speed for conditions, lane splitting and not being seen and lack of skill in riding on curves.

The local news in Portland reported the injured/death toll for last weekend, nearly half involved MC's. The reporter touched on the increase in MC accidents recently and noted the cause is likely to to higher riderships. Also said, without specific stats, that the majority of MC accidents are due to speed and alcohol, which doesn't surprise me at all. Of course he promised more detail in the segment during the later news, and I didn't catch that part.
That link/report noted above is 26 years old - super powerful sport bikes were just starting to come on the scene back then.... the Ninja's I suppose. There are tens of thousands of more riders out there, I find it hard to put any relevance into a study that old.

Another current and interesting article on the subject, from Florida.

Good link. I think this is a smart piece of legislation:

Starting July 1, 2008, anyone applying for a motorcycle endorsement to legally ride in Florida must first pass a rider-safety course.

88.6 per cent of all statistics are made up on the spot.
96.7% of those are trying to prove a point...the rest just to sound smart.

I just made that up
