Default weather reports

When i take a trip I look at a few long range forecasts around the cities I will be driving past. If a couple different routes are available I compare the forecasts and pick the least raining windy cold etc route.
Is there a smarter way to do this? Is their a website you plug in your location and destination and time frame and it helps with weather reports. any magic out there.
for example I am planning a trip to Dallas from Rockford Illinois weather permitting March 13th thru 18th . I can run thru Omaha or St Louis or points in between to avoid storm ice or snow. Has anybody seen a route planning site that helps with this?

Personally, weather forecasts are a joke. On Sunday, it was supposed to rain Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It was sunny all 3 days. So if they can get THE PRESENT DAY right, I'm surprised.

Yeah, it's really a crapshoot, even within two or three days.

There used to be a website that you could plug in your route and departure date/time and get a basic forecast along the route. I can't remember it off the top of my head - I found it by Googling "road trip weather planner" or something similar. I'll see if I can find it, but I think it might have been pulled down...let me do some checking around...

Here's a real basic version but it only works the day you're leaving: http://www.accuweather.com/en/drivin...ctions-weather

And another one, but it's not too user friendly: http://preview.weather.gov/edd/

If it's really windy I like to hoist the sails and use it to my advantage. You wouldn't believe the gas I've saved in the Midwest the past couple days.

I'll just plan the least windy route on the way home. Hoping to get some tips from this thread.

I have been using an App on my iPhone called Storm. It is pretty accurate and free to download.

Weather forecasts are crap shoot. I think temps are usually fairly close, but rain/wind/snow is always up in the air until day of.

As for your trip coming up, I'd get south as quick as possible down through St. Louis. You never know what kind of crap you will hit across I 80 through Des Moines and Omaha. Even if you do come across 80 I would drop south on I35 in Des Moines, no reason to go all the way over to Omaha.

I agree! The folks I know who ride from Illinois to Daytona in March do the same. Weather in Illinois has been strange. In Feb we had near 70 degree temps, snow, rain and tornados. I'm not aware of an app that'll give you weather based route planning. Might be best to check the weather each morning before you ride and plan accordingly.
