I would go with the 883, because in two or three years, when the 883 becomes a ho-hum bike, you can turn it into a 1200, for a little of nothing in comparison to trading bikes. I haven't seen too many kits to bump the 750 yet, but I haven't really looked.

I've been doing the same this last year, currently on a Honda.
Both the Street and the 883 Iron are good Harley starters, but settled on the 883 because it has the Harley-looks and both HD and aftermarket accessories are more available.
I'd be on it now, but tore my right shoulder rotator cuss a few weeks ago. Bummer!

Have you considered a used Sporty? Tons of nice 1200's out there for less than a new 883, and you don't have to take the initial depreciation hit. They really don't change much, so a 2-3 yr. old bike might do it for you. Also, if you are going to do any mods (who doesn't?) there's a ton of stuff out there for a Sporty; probably not much for the Street yet. Good Luck!

The Street looks good from certain angles and looks like a big scooter from certain angles....to me anyway...
Sitting in a dealership amongst all the other bikes really brings it out to me....

My girlfriend was interested in the Street Rod, so we found one in stock at a dealer about an hour away and drove out to check it out. Same thing as you said, in the pics, it doesn't look bad. Next to all the other HD's though, it looks cheap, not well thought out (especially with how far out to the side the pipes mount), and like a plain run of the mill commuter bike.

She sat on the Iron and there was no looking back for her.

Commuter bike is a great way to describe the street rod for me too. I like the look of both the street 750 and 883, still need to test ride both.

Wise bet.

mod's are expensive,it's likely someone else has already done some.
