I got the 777 HDs on the good reviews. Never again.

Avon Cobras for the win.

If someone goes through tires frequently and the bike is more an appliance than a source of fun then the Shinko's may have their place. I had much better confidence even in Kendas.

There were some good tire rebates recently to make good tires an even better deal.

I've run Shinko's front and back on my bobber for 25,000 miles. Get good service out of then and they stick to the road, wet or dry. I get about 10,000 on each rear tire but, my bike is very light, only 450lbs so, YMMV....

The Shinko 777 is about the 3rd redo of chronic failed touring tire from this mfg. Their W/W's turn yellow and poor miles (soft) They delaminate and peel on heavy touring bikes, and it has been front and rear.
The Dunlop American Elite is a proven mileage leader and stickier then most. I will not use a Commander II or Metz 888, too slick in the rain and worse as they wear. The Elites are not cheap, but many reports of 20K+ on the rear and more on the front.
I just ordered a pair of Avon Cobra's in OP's size for $229 (pair) shipped from Dennis Kirk, Jake Wilson is the same price, both through April 30th. The smaller tires are less. This size Cobra rear tire is the Ultra/HD tire and runs at 50+ lbs on the FL's

everyone that i have talked to about these tires say the same thing

cheap, great grip, short life

I almost tried them on my dyna but at the end of the day I envisioned myself riding 85 mph on the interstate, next to my buddy, with my wife on the back, gear for the weekend and texas asphalt that is hotter than hell and I just ordered another michelin commander 2

I will try them next set. They have been making considerable progress in developing their product. Tires from their past have no bearing on today's product.

It does until they've been out long enough and prove themselves on the heavy bikes. They haven't proven it to me yet. It's going to take longer for me to trust 'em. With regard to tires, "progress" doesn't cut it. perfection does. Almost counts with hand grenades and maybe with Shinko's also.

I replaced a crappy pair of Metzelers with some Shinko HD on my Deuce. I changed them right before this years Daytona rally. Cost me only $158.00 shipped from eBay. Mounted them myself in the yard. Absolutely love them! Very sticky tires! Plus they look really aggressive.

Yeah you won't get more than 5000 miles from them, but for $158 bones, who cares!

Well, that's the "glass half full" way to look at it I guess.

But extending your theory to the automotive world, I wouldn't be first in line to buy if Yugo announced they were coming out with a new car.

I cant get more than 6000 miles on my Road King rear. Ran Dunlop just because I trust them. I am on Dunlop E3 now but it looks like it will need replaced at 6000 too. I ride 2 up 95% of the time.

How are you guys getting 10000 plus miles out of your tour bikes ?

Have a Dyna FatBob getting ready to replace my Shinko 777. Tire has 6800 miles on it an just getting to the wear bars. Has been a very good tire, good traction wet or dry. I have no complaints with it. Ran a Pirelli Night Dragon before the Shinko an mileage with the Pirelli is no better 7000 miles tire needed replace. Bought a Avon Cobra to try this time was only 20.00 more than the Shinko. If the cobra does not give me better mileage I will be back to the Shinko.
