After only getting 6800 miles out of my last Dunlop I did what you are considering. Went with Shinko. But just did it so can't say how it will last but can't be much worse.
I ran a Shinko once and once was enough. Slicker than snot on dry pavement and downright scary in the rain. The cost of a good tire is a safety issue in my mind. Just my opinion

Dunlop American Elite should last 15,000 miles.
Shinko will last about 4500 miles give or take.
What's the price of 3 Shinko's plus mount & balance for 2 extra times?
have a friend who's running one right now. it seems soft and it don't look like he will get many miles out of it. i've ran dunlops and avons over the years and got alot of miles out of them. average 13,000 on my softail and 22,000 on my touring bike. these were rears.
Went through a couple of SHinko 777 rears on my Road King. Excelent traction and handling under all conditions, but only got a little under 5000 miles on each. THe front seems to be holding up quite well.
Given the PIA of removing the rear wheel and the extra $20 or so to get it changed, I went with an Avon Cobra this time We'll see.
It's been beat to death here on these forums. There are tons of reviews on them everywhere. Bottom line, they are grippy tires, you will get a bit less mileage than the Dunlops, at least in my experience.
I've been running them for years. I do my own tire changes in my garage.
I save a lot of money doing it myself, vs. paying a shop to install my tires.
I liked the ride and the stickiness. I didn't like the 3500 miles I got out of them. They also wore funny, one part of the tire still had tread down the middle and the opposite part was smooth. Like one part had been grooved deeper...was very strange. I switched to Conti. Not as grippy but have 3500 miles and it still looks great.
