Rumors are this could be the last year of the Softail, its been around for 25 yrs.
Models come and go all the time, but if there was any truth to the entire line being discontinued I'm sure there would have been more rumblings than just "rumors."
what do you have to back this up. I'd be amazed if they discontinued Softails, surely they sell more than Dynas. If Dynas share the touring frame next year that doesn't leave HD with many options.
like I said, it's a rumor, I thought I read it somewhere
I don't own a Harley, but looking to buy one this year. Can someone explain to me the advantages and disadvantage of the rear suspension of the Softail and Dyna?
Personally, it's been my experience that there are those that are loyal to a Dyna and those that are loyal to the Softail. Since I am assuming that comfort is important to you, I'd ride both and see which bike feels the most comfy for you. Also, looks can play a large part in some people's thinking so there's another reason why some like a Dyna and some like a Softail. I'll admit that I've never ridden a Dyna but I have ridden my Softail Springer for 12 years now with close to 105k on it and I don't have any issues with comfort. As for the vibration issue, my '05 is hardly noticeable.
Since the Dyna has a typical rear suspension system, there are many aftermarket shock makers that offer shocks that are substantially better than the stockers.
What do you ride now, OP?
Wife dyna, me softail. Basically sportier feel on the dyna, softail has a la-z-boy feel to it. Lean angle is better on dyna. Softail is overall a smoother ride. My wife said once riding my scoot was that it "didn't want to turn." Not saying it can't but further adds to the la-z-boy approach to the motorcycle.

If you ride by feel - get a dyna
If you don't know what above means - get a soft tail
You won't know the difference..., and the dyna - set up properly - will feel harsh until / unless you learn to ride by feel

I had both. Did not like the dyna, softail was a awesome bike, wish I still had it.
