I am on my second HJC modular. My newest one is the flat black and I got the smoked shield. It was too tight on the cheek pads so I took them out for a couple of days and compressed them with a couple of books now the fit is fine. I recommend this brand
You want a new helmet to be a tad snug as it will "loosen up" as it gets broken in. Be sure that if you're planning on wearing a doo rag or whatever that you wear it when you try the helmet on.
I have a HJC FF Modular with the inner sun shade and I like it.
I mounted my speakers and boom mike inside of the helmet lining and for the price (as compared to some other brands) it's a good value.
I would suggest adding a "quick release" buckle to the strap.
The one thing that I somewhat regret is that I bought "black" instead of "white" or perhaps another brighter color.
Black of course looks much better than white but the "white" helmet increases your visibility to other drivers and it's also a bit cooler in hot temps.
I wear a HJC CL-II if that is the one you're talking about. I like it for an entry level modular. A little noisy. I suggest you find a place where you can try it on.
I have the CL-II modular and like it a lot. I don't wear it on the bike so much anymore as I prefer my half and 3/4 helmets as they offer me a ton more visibility. The CL-II is my primary snowmobiling helmet now (the shields swap out so it can be used as both). I highly recommend it if that's the route you want to go. A lot of features for not a lot of money. Certainly try it on though as helmets fit everyone VERY differently.
I love my HJC modular. I took a chance and ordered mine online and got very lucky that it fit perfect. I have a rather large head and the website said I should fit an XXL but to be safe I ordered a 3X and it is the best helmet I've ever had. I just recently added my HD headset and was very surprised the mic fits well in the front.
Thanks for all the input !!!!
I guess my next stop is Cycle Gear. I know one of
the key things is to make sure it fits ok WITH the
sunglasses on.
Then I'll compare prices on line
You dont have a HD dealership near by? They sale the HJC's there you could just go in and try them on to see what fits. Thats what I did and then bought it online without the Harley logo for a lot less. I like mine but it was a bit noisy so i've recently gone to just a standard full face. A buddy of mine bought one of the HJC modulars from the local dealer and he loves it, thats all he'll wear.
