Cell phones are wonderful to use as a GPS......as long as you have cell coverage.... GPS doesn't need a cell tower... or a data plan...
I have a 660 I uses it mostly to play MP3s ... but has come in handy in many cases

Position is derived from a built in GPS receiver in the phone. If you get an app that stores the map locally, then no data is used and no cell signal is needed. The Garmin app for example works this way.

I use co-pilot on my phone, no data or cell signal needed. Have a map for all North America on my sd card.
