Default Zumo GPS

My dealership has a Garmin Zumo 665 with mount and XM antenna for 80% off. Would be less than $200. My question, is it much better than GPS on phones? My phone goes to my bluetooth in my helmet and works pretty good. Real life experience appreciated. Thanks.

for that price, you would do well to go ahead an buy it.

I've seen used 660s going for almost $300 without the mounts. and since they aren't making that model anymore, you aren't going to find many more of them.

and for the record, I like my 660.

The 665 has the XM capability so that you can get satellite weather radar no matter where you are. The display then can show your route overlaid with the weather data that shows where rain is. You will have to subscribe for that service. But it's cheap. I use mine a lot.

I have 2 bikes so swap my 660 between them. A link to the dealership with the buy would be appreciated and I would be all over it!!!

$200 or so for a 665 is a howling deal. Just came back from a 150 mile ride today, guided at all times by my 665. Yes, it is much better than an iPhone.

FWIW...I would no longer buy a dedicated GPS unit now that I have found the combination of Tyre (on the desktop) and CoPilot on my phone.

Both apps are free and you already have a phone that it will work on.

I can plan a ride in Tyre very easily, send the route to my phone and use CoPilot (made by Trimble) and the route is dead on every time. Nothing is "interpreted" by CoPilot when it reads the Tyre route and the software that is CoPilot is better than any Garmin or Tom Tom (let's not even talk about HD Infotainment).

The fact is that your phone has more horsepower in it than a $800 GPS and you already own it. My Samsung devices have been waterproof out of the box for years. No special case needed.

Tyre is fantastic to use and CoPilot is like Google Maps on steroids--it's a real GPS that can take waypoints.

I will check out Tyre, I had never heard of it. I've been using Co-pilot for years and like it a lot. How do you get co-pilot to read the route? I have a paid app version but never noticed anything like that but I don't play around with it much.

Cell phones are wonderful to use as a GPS......as long as you have cell coverage.... GPS doesn't need a cell tower... or a data plan...
I have a 660 I uses it mostly to play MP3s ... but has come in handy in many cases
as always YMMV
