Just did 1000 miles with TT/Flat track style bars on my Fat Bob and experienced a lot of what seemed to be tendon pain in elbows, particularly right side. Voltarin helped. At home I took my brothers bike, an 01 Dyna with 12" HD mini apes, for a 1/2 hr ride. I then hopped on mine and the pain started within a mile.
Obviously a handlebar change is due; was it the way the grips are angled? What to look for? BTW; I'm 63

Back when I first got my 05 Springer, I noticed similar pain but in my shoulders, neck and upper back. After I went to apes, all the pain went away and I enjoyed my ride much better. Although apes might not be for everybody I would suggest that you find some sort of bars that bring the grips back and closer to you to take some of the strain off your elbows. Even a set of pull back risers would help, if you wanted to go that way and there are also other styles of bars to choose from.. Since you mentioned age, I'm 66.
What is the difference with the buck horns vs. traditional apes? Thanks.
Buckhorns have a similar rise to Apes but they pull back and then slope downward where Apes usually stick out in more of a straight line. See below links From Google Images.

I tried buckhorns for my carpal and shoulder pain. Really thought they would make a difference from stock heritage bars. Made my problems worse.
Handling was more difficult with the buckhorns as well.
May work for someone else, but not for me.
Sucked too because I like the old school look and feel of the buckhorns.
