My 2013 FLS has developed a small problem. Sometimes it will only start in neutral. Is this a common problem or can it it remedied. Of course neutral sometimes is pain to find. What may be the problem? It is a minor thing but drives me crazy sometimes.
There's a thread discussing starting in gear. My '14 Slim only starts in Neutral with the clutch pulled. Someone told me that there is a switch bad on my bike.... Can't remember which one. Don't really care all that much.
I tried started mine in gear with the clutch pulled in and the bike lurched a little, so that was the last time I did that. So I always start mine in neutral.
I don't see where finding neutral is a pain. For me, it's easier to reach down and find it with my hand, rather than with my foot. If you have a neutral light, try using it to help you find neutral. It's not that big of a deal, unless you make it one, which you seem to have done.
My wifes Streetbob always lurched forward when she started it,she always left it in gear and like you I would always reach down with my hand to find neutral if I was moving it or taking it out for whatever reason, not that big a deal,me on the other hand always leave my bike in neutral and don't have any trouble at all when starting it,I think it's easier on it when not in gear.
If I start in gear, I like to give it a roll forward (of course with clutch pulled in) and back a few feet before engaging starter. Seems to disengage clutch pack and doesnt lurch when starting. Read it somewhere here I think
