Why is it cool to wear a German helmet, but un-cool to ride a Japanese bike?
Why are all German helmets worn by HD riders (and wannabe's) but BMW riders never wear them? Has to be some kind of fashion statement.
Many years ago it was explained to me that the German helmet thing was just to **** of the "establishment". That I understand. Is that still the motivation? A beanie, I understand, but a beanie with wings it tough to figure out.
Because there's a completely different style to riding a BMW than there is to a Harley...BMW guys are usually wearing their lime green Arai and full Aerostitch.
I'm sure that back when they started wearing German helmets, it was a stab at the establishment as was wearing Swazzi patches and the HAs kissing each other just to **** with people. It's what being a biker was about, not riding to Starbucks this Sunday and bitching next Sunday that your battery is dead and posting a thread about which tender to buy...but that's a whole 'nother topic.
It started from that and the style just stuck. Those helmets are just associated with Harleys now and some people dig the look. My father in law had some ties to clubs back in his day and to this day, he will only wear a German helmet.
