Agreed the WG was different. They could still make that model if they had demand. They have reduced the complexity of making the different models, at least for the first year. Maybe it will come back later.

They could have called it anything they wanted to. Softail is still a valuable, viable brand name. At this point, according to the owner, Dyna not so much.

Softail is a trademark and Harley has used it to market the bikes since it was first made. Dyna or Touring is not the brand that was used - they are/were sold by model. Just a guess, but that may be part of it.

They also have to keep producing something called Softail or they will lose the trademark.

Agreed. Not even sure why HD would offer the Low Rider any more given it is basically the same as the Softail Slim or Fat Boy, or even the Street Bob. Not sure what the 2018 LR does for the line up.

I like the chopper feel WIllie G. Tried to capture when he designed the WG and I'm only 34 but I grew up looking at Harley's and the old choppers and that's what grabs my attention

Agreed. But names change all of the time, FX,FXR,FXD, are just three examples of exposed shock Big Twin Harleys along the same lines. Nothing saying a new one couldn't be in the works.

Agreed - I was posting the same thing when you were typing.

Still, to a traditional Softail owner, it's just as different as it is to a traditional Dyna owner. It's really neither anymore - just a marketing name transferred to a wholly new design.

A design that most likely improves on the suspension of both bikes. But really messed up the looks for those of us who like the looks of exposed shocks.

Co-sign. LOVING the trend towards more minimal, stripped-down, anti-bling.
