Haven't ridden one yet, so no opinion here. As to why, it's just change and resistance to it.
MHGA group forming soon. I don't own Harley stock and don't work for the MOCO.
HATE - Dyna Lives Matter - Neo Softail - Mono Shock Klan
1903 - now lots of changes and still going.
I don't have any hatred towards the new bikes. But I am certainly taking issue with these new and (in my opinion) unrealistic pricing point's. I'm by no means impoverished or destitute.... But with the way the new bikes are priced, I honestly don't ever see myself buying another brand new Harley-Davidson. Hell, my '13 Anniversary Edition still isn't paid off. And when it is, I certainly won't be running to drop 30k on a new bagger. I'll just enjoy my free ride.

Loved that root beer brown on the 13's the first time I saw it. FWIW the new RK is $18,999, about $400 more than my '16 was.

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I struggled quite a bit with my choice. I went to the dealer with the full expectation of riding the standard Road King home. But I just loved that Anniversary soo much. And for just a little more than the Ultra, she was mine. That being said, trading my current Anniversary Edition in on a new plain Jane Road King without all the chrome, bronze badging and two tone paint, would be a downgrade to me (no offense to the new models). In my mind, I just couldn't do it. But to actually get a new touring bike like an Ultra or Limited is going way past a price point I consider reasonable for a luxury item.

I find it hilarious that guy's are barley getting to a stage 1 on the M8's and the after market is working 24/7 to catch up and now everyone is looking at the 18's.
Fact is, the M8's bring nothing but EPA heartache and until the aftermarket figures out how to get around it most guys have little options.
Funny going to Sturgis or somewhere and seeing a 100,000 SG's with FM headers, SE air cleaners and PV tuner.
Aftermarket will get this figure out but we gotta wait for anything substantial

Not everyone wants all the mods. I learned my lesson with the 13 Ultra Classic. Was at a bike week event and got a stage 1 kit, headers, cleaner, tuner, yada yada...I regretted it. Sounded cool but the constant drone at highway speed had me wishing I could go back in time to just stock and a somewhat more aggressive slipon.
New Road King is getting S&S MK45 w/baffles intact and I'm done. Don't want or need anything else. No radio, no fairing. Staying the way it is.
As far as power and people chasing numbers, considering that you can now get a 114 for $1,700 more over the 107 and people with the 103 were spending thousands and thousands of dollars to get the equivalent in performance just two years ago, it shows its not worth it The new M8 has more than I want or need. It's a Harley, not a supersport. Spend many thousands of dollars trying to get every last drop of performance means probably looking at the wrong manufacturer. But that's just my take. I dont see it as worth it.

For 20 some odd years I ran straight shot guns on every Pan and Shovel I owned. I've kept cotton ***** inside my vest for almost 40 years because of loud pipes. I tear a little off and stuff them into my ears. I betcha I have 4 boxes of cotton ***** in different area of the garage and house.
I ride a lot in packs and it gets loud and my hearing is great for my age, an old timer I hung out with when I was young taught me how to survive the long trips with loud pipes. back then we didn't have music, cell phones or whatever, just the sound of the bike and it get's annoying especially across country.

My 09 Ultra will do 115+ and get there quickly enough. I haven't seen a speed limit sign yet over 80. Spent more on suspension upgrades than engine and worth every $. People bragging about all their mods (some they don't even understand) then they complain they can't keep up and I corner to fast. Like always, why pays the BIG $$$s for something you never use.
