I am transferring from the left to right coast in a few weeks and am wondering what you all think about getting a windshield. I have an '06 Street Bob, my first (definitely not last) Harley.
If you would recommend a windshield, any in particular?

How about a full face helmet instead ? You'll get a lot of the benefits of a windshield, you'll be safer and your Street Bob won't look funny.
I am not sure where you are headed on the east coast but unless I just going down the street or out for a short ride my windshield is on. Sure it looks funny, but full face helmets bother me andanything over50-55 without the shieldmakes my neck sore.OH, almost forgot about the bugs, they are horrible out here in the DC area and the shield really helps.
I wouldn't ride without one. Keeps the bugs off of you and just about anything else that gets thrown at you from the cagers passing by. It's also great in the rain and snow, if you happen to get caught in a storm.
Since you're gonna be riding such a great distance I can't see doing it without a windshield. I don't like they way they look on the bike but I'm not a fan of full faced helmets on harleys. I would look at the quick release detachable super sport windshield or the quick release detachable compact windshield. Neither of these models have docking hardware that needs to be installed. That way you can take it off with no indication that it was ever there. You can find these on page 148 and 149 of 2007 Harley-Davidson accessories catalog.
