I thought only the softails got the twin counterbalanced M8's? The touring line has the single still I thought.

to my knowledge... You are correct, they did not change that in the '18s on the touring bikes

That is correct. The soft tails are dual counter balanced the touring models are single. I am also not sure the first 18's have the newer oil pump in them either as they were built back in July.

Can you please point me to that information on the Harley site. Thanks .. curious.

the touring models still only have one counterbalance. the 'softail' models have 2.

The 2018s definitely have the new oil pump, and they have a slightly different tune then the 2017s. I was told that by more then one dealer. But as far as the counter balancers I think your right that was for the Softails because of there smaller frame and how the engine behaved on it. I'm pretty sure the late 2017s even have the updated oil pump from what the dealer said.

No motor company would ever state that on there sight. Most of the time they fix or replace things its on the hush hush unless it turns into an all out major problem.

A middle of the road approach would be for the dealer ( not the place you ended up buying a bike at ) to ask you to give the them a shot at re-quoting you if you found a better deal out there from. This way they maybe could have thrown in 1,000 mile service, some accessories, ESP for a couple years, or some other incentive to take the 17 off the floor.
