I did some talking and pricing because I was wanting a Monotail slim with a 114, but to get that I would have to get the 114 crank shaft put into a 107, and for the dealership to do it we would be looking at an extra 8 to 10,000.00 on top of the price of the new monotail slim.
Yeah - HD did it the hard way by upping the stroke on the 114 rather than just boring it out a little.
Which is good as you can still bore it out more! There are M8 114 to 124 drop in kits on the market now....
For less than a grand...get the 114. You won't waste any time pondering the "what ifs" down the road. Compared the money we spend on shiny bits and other do-dads, an extra thousand isn't much.
There are differences in the engine other than the bore.
it may not matter now but, it will matter later whenyou get to upgrading. The 107 softails don't share thr same crank with the 114. If you compare the 2 on hds site, you'll see the bore and stroke are different as well as the optional $795 abs on the 107....
Over the term of your loan (assuming you're not paying cash) you'll barely notice the $925 difference. I'd go with the 114. You can make up the extra cost many ways. One less meal out a month, spend half as much on your mother in laws Xmas present, one less trip to the massage parlor, you get the point. lol
