Because people will pay it for some reason or another. If you decide to DIY next time, pick up one of these low profile oil pans, they are really nice;

when you're done, take it to your local auto parts store and recycle the oil.

You can buy a 3 hole Amsoil full synthetic kit with oil filter for about 100.00 and most any parts store will dump your oil for free.

Or, you can go into the kitchen and grab one of these. Just pour the oil back into the jug, or use it as weed killer, wash the pan and the ol' lady will never know.

That's what I do, but being more honest than some I use an old pan and just keep it for that purpose.

Put the oil in a 5 gallon bucket and bring it to any O'Reilly, Autozone. Etc etc...they will take your oil for free.

OOoooooppppps. Didn't see the previous post.

I paid a dealership $307 to do my 1K but only because I was there to have my already paid for headers, slips, breather and tuner added. I was also well over 1K so it was simply a matter of convenience. Have no problem doing it myself but it is a minor inconvenience getting rid of the old oil. My Indy will do it for $160 (all 3) so it is almost worth it to have him do most of my service, especially on the new bike. Old bike I always do.

I had a dealer service my bike while on a trip once. Then invested in a turkey baster to pull the excess oil out once I got to my destination. Yeh, I screwed up and didn't check the level before I left the dealer.

Are you talking about just a fluid change? or a scheduled service? A scheduled service is more than an oil change and that is why it costs what it does.

If you are somewhat handy, get a FSM as suggested and do your own. However if you have a warranty be sure to document that you completed all the steps in the scheduled service and save your receipts.

Factory service manual is the only "investment" you can make for your bike
this.

~$50 on oil, ~$10 on a filter, ~30 whatever you are throwing in you trans and primary.

red line puts it all, accept the filter, in one box:
