Never cleaned my helmet. Bought the current one, I think around 1987? Maybe I'll spray a little febreeze in it?

I use Woolite, hand detergent for delicate fabrics. Fill sink with warm water, add a capfull of Woolite. Throw your liner pieces in and "squish" them around. You will be surprised how dirty the water gets. Repeat until water doesn't get dirty, then rinse. After parts are dry, re-install and enjoy the fresh Woolite smell!

I use a Doo Rag or something similar as a helmet liner. It serves two purposes. One to help keep my hair from beating me to death. Even one loose one can be a pain in the eyeball. Or ever swallow a long hair or get one up your nose? Not fun. Once I remove my helmet, the Doo Rag stays on my head so I can go about my business.

It also makes it so the liner of the helmet stays clean a lot longer. I do launder the Doo Rag after several rides, and I have maybe a half dozen to alternate with.

I have one convertible helmet with removable liners, and 4 others that don't. One is a 1/2 helmet, and the other 3 are 3/4 helmets (with pull down face shields) They all get a good cleaning at least once a year with woolite.

Once you do this, unlikely you will go without washing your helmet again
