Default Helmet cleaning.

So here is a little often forgotten item that I’m sure we all are too lax on. After a hot summer wearing my Harley Half helmet I decided it was getting a bit strong. So I removed the cleanable liner and using hand soap and warm water in the sink I scrubbed it until I was sure I cleaned it all. After rinsing well I used a towel to blot dry the liner and put it back in the helmet to dry a while in the sun. I’ve done the same on older helmets with non removable liners for those I use a wash bucket and fill with shampoo and warm water and soak and scrub while dunking the helmet. After this process I use a hair dryer to slowly dry out the helmet. A little trim glue for any loose trim and ready to go again. So..... next ride when you smell something remember it might just be your kid!!

Well
Here in Phoenix some summer days get up over 100. I ride up to 105 and then take the car. I’ve ridden up to 110 but then it stops being enjoyable. Needless to say my kid needed a wash.

I won`t buy a helmet that does not have a removable/washable liner

I used to toss my helmet liner in the washing machine. Air dry only, don't put it in the dryer.

There is a spray you can buy, I have a can, you spray It liberally in the liner and you scrub it with a damp towel, let it dry...Removable liners are the bestest

I was going to suggest the same thing that you just said, seems like that would be easier than taking the lining all apart to wash it.

Fixed it for you. You know, for accuracy and all that.

The best thing to do, is have a few helmets so you can rotate their use.

Lastly, you might want to go "full face" when it gets over 98.6F. Constant hot/dry air over your skin doesn't allow perspiration to cool your body. First, it'll give you headache, then disorientation, then death. (And, it can go from good to very bad in very few minutes.)

Having a full face with the shield down insulates your head from this "super heating."

But, riding in Late October to mid May in Arizona is awesome. Flagstaff is better during the "HOT" times as it's got altitude to help with the stupid hot temps of the rest of the State.

Just pointing out the dangers of "hypERthermia". It's not something to mess with, especially out in the middle of the desert, where there may be no relief from many miles or minutes. Stepping inside a 7-11 store is a good way to get your body temp back down.

Alcohol exacerbates the problem too.

Ever ride "89A?" I think the "A" stands for awesome.
