Glad you weren't hurt worse. You really should get checked out, at least, by your doctor. You never know how bad you could've been hurt. Adrenaline can mask the pain and keep you from realizing just how bad off you really are. (Don't ask me how I know...)
lh4x4 We may not see eye to eye very often on very many things, but I really am glad that you are ok and still able to ride. I can feel your pain, soreness and embarrassment. Time and the Heavenly Father can heal all. Yes I have suffered all three a lot more than once in the last 50 years on two wheels and a motor. so enjoy your rides and Merry Christmas.
You were fortunate, old man. I've scratched some parts on the street, but no injuries on the road. Dislocated a shoulder on a dirt bike, painful ride home, but that was early 30's and I could handle it. At an overweight 70, hope I never find out how tough I am again, but I know that's something that can happen to any of us. Lots of garbage cans out there...

OP stated he lost consciousness for a while; that's immediate cause for a look-see by a Dr.
My trash can is square too. But it's not chained down. I sometimes find it three yards over.
I'm a bad neighbor. And a hazard to motorcyclists.
I have to dodge 'em with "Da Bus" sometimes but the most embarrassing part is stopping fin the dark for a garbage can in the dark thinking it's a student who's needing a ride :>(
Been getting in a ride every day this month. Today it was in the 40's with a wind advisory. I usually pick a route into the wind then go north or south at some point and return with the wind.
I started to the west on Illinois route 81 west into the wind. About 7 miles later going through a tiny 300 population town of Lynn Center at about 45 mph. Just as it was at the last couple of houses a 30 gallon garbage can rolled out in front of me from the left headed to the right. Did a quick left counter steer. Just as I did that the can came back immediately and the front tire on the T went right into the opening. I felt the front end wash out then heard the engine guard( I put them on every machine) and felt an impact on my left shoulder.
Don't recall anything after that until a little later my eyes opened and I was lying in the gutter next to the curb (didn't have a drink). I saw the T on its left side down the road a bit.
Some guy ran out of the house ( it was his can) asked me if I was okay. I told him I was fine. Actually I was embarrassed and didn't want witnesses or questions. My pride was the only thing hurt.
Walked to the bike and cycled the ignition switch to fire it up, The guy followed and keep wanting me to come into his house and set awhile. Hell no! I had a ride to finish.
Went east with the wind for about 40 miles and stopped at the dealer for some hot chocolate.
Then I looked the bike over. The engine guard had deep scrapes. No need to replace as that is just part of the bikes history now. The left mirror was busted but I have several take off sets from over the years. The left saddlebag slide right on the seam from the side to the bottom and the covering was loose. I will get a new one for when I trade or sell. Since it is one of my winter rides I will just duct tape/glue it until then.
Tonight my right and left shoulders are a little sore as is my right and left hips. My right knee is a little swollen.
No biggie but I did bounce better than I thought I would at 77. Apparently I rolled like a log for about 12 to 16 feet.
Good temps for the next three days so I'm off again. When you fall off. Just get back on.
Glad to hear that you were able to get back on and ride away, some might not have been that lucky.
