We haven't been up there on two wheels but many time in the cage and always do it during the week. Usually stay at the Ashbrooke in Egg Harbor. Adult motel in a less congested area. Walk downtown or short ride up the road to Fish Creek were there are a lot more resturaunts and bars but can be very congested.
2nd on Washington Island. I used to live in Sheboygan for 8 years, and I'm a WI native. Me and my Dad used to take a Fall Foliage trip every year in early October somewhere in Wisconsin. We'd meet at some hotel close to a brewery (which was never difficuilt), then the next day do some scenic road to see the fall color change. One year it was Washington Island. Totally worth it, even though it was a bitch getting thru all the other damn leafers with IL plates...
Beautiful area but I was there in September and no matter where I parked, in the morning, the cycle was full of tree crud (may have been sap or pollen) and when I ran my hand over the paint, it felt like 400 grit sandpaper or a bad case of acne. I would not go at that time of year without a cover.
I was not parked under a tree but with the winds and all the foliage, I couldn't find a sheltered place to park.
Check out Algoma, WI. We do a fall Salmon fishing trip there every year and we stay at the Harbor Inn. It's not fancy, but it's right on the lake and there's a bar across the parking lot. Downtown is within walking distance.
We did a trip to Door a few years back. Stayed at Fish Creek Motel and Cottages, taverns to walk to and the motel is down hill from the center of town. For breakfast there is Julie's Park and Café. There is a nice state park by Julie's. Ride up to Gills Rock and a very curvy road to the ferry landing. Then for afternoon or evening cool down a stop at Wilson's ice cream is in order, take in the sights of the bay. When we were there fast food joints were banned from Door county. The establishments love your money so take lot's of it. All in all, a good ride any where in the county.
I live just south of DC. The wife and I do a couple rides up there every year. We don't stay as we are close enough to just go when we want. Replies from everyone else would be advice I'd give as well. Now a days we avoid the summer due to congestion. Love Sweetie Pies in Fish Creek and Northern Grill & Pizza in Sister Bay. Fall riding is awesome up there.
I did a tour with Door County as the final destination. We drove up Michigan and crossed Lake Michigan into Wisconsin on the Badger. As for Door County, it rained cats and dogs the whole time I was there. I have nothing to recommend; I could barely see two car lengths in front of my front wheel. Didn't see anything of Door County. I'm never going back. YMMV.
from the city of green bay to the tip of the door is about 100 miles. sturgeon bay is the largest city in door county and has a good amount of motels, it's mid door county. as long as your in the area doc's HD in bonduel, wi. is a must see. it's about 25 miles west of green bay. he feeds the alligators, chicken at 10am on saturday mornings. free car and motorcycle museum, free zoo and a restaurant with a bar on site.
