Here's our '64 my father and I restored. First year for electric start on any Harley.

They always remind me of the cops patrolling downtown Dallas, giving parking tickets and some had them for ice cream vending.

Yup, Flatheads all the way, me on my '42 in the early 60's. Flathead Harley's were reliable, did not leak, ran forever and used on the servicar exclusively.

Wonderful for crossing the soft beach sand with a case of beer.

'65 was the first electric start on the big twins but they tried it on the Servi-car in '64. The starter was Delco/Remy off an Evinrude outboard. Not all of the '64 Servi-cars had electric start. I'm not sure of the exact numbers. Ours does have it.

The Chicago cops were still using them in the early '80's when I moved away from there.
