Default 1971 Servi-Car

I don't think I've actually ever seen an actual Servi-Car in person, and I think it would be a trip to ride one. Apparently they were the longest H-D model in production? Pretty cool. This one is going to be for sale at Carlisle at the end of next month. More pics here.

You better be into nostalgia if and when you ever ride one. They are slow with lousy handling and not much ride comfort. Compared to todays trikes it's like the difference between a sports car and a dump truck. The servi-car being the dump truck. I rode one once and once was enough for me. The one I got to try was in good shape and bone stock. When I was in the service (Navy) one of the pilots in my squadron had one and he let me take it for a ride. It was cool, but I wouldn't want to ride one in much more than a parade.

Wouldn't be a '71 with a flathead motor.

I spent a few childhood years in the '50's in Chicago, and saw several then. They were used by the police, and there some with insulated boxes used to sell ice cream treats.

They were still widely used in Chicago in the late ‘70s.

Servi-Car never got the Shovelhead engine. Flathead remained till production ended in '73

Oh yeah, the old flathead 45's were made till the mid 70'3 sometime. Reliable as all get out but not enough umph to pull a cat off a carpet. Remember when you buy one running under $500, should have bought a barn full.

I was a senior in high school in 1964 and a guy I worked with at the local Shell station gave me a Servicar. I have to admit I didn't know/don't remember much about it except it was really rough. It had been a funeral escort vehicle and was well worn. I do remember that it had a foot clutch and tank shift.

One Friday night I was at Pacific Raceways (about 45 miles from home) for the Friday Night Grudge Races and my Oldsmobile blew up on the starting line during my second run. Had a friend give me a ride home, loaded up my tools in the Sevicar and went back to the track to see if I could get the Olds running. Pulled a head and found I had sucked a piston so there was no fixing it onsite. Headed back home in the Servicar and it broke down about half way home. Had my buddy bring a tow bar and pick me up. We went to the strip and hooked up the Olds. Then when we got to the Servicar, we hooked it to the back of the Olds (the Servicar had a tow bar on the front). Headed home and got about 2 miles from home when the cops got us. It's illegal in Washington to tow two vehicles. Gave the cop the story and he could see my address on my license and knew we were close to home so he sent us on or way. Both the Olds and the Servicar went to the junkyard. That Servicar was my first and only Harley until 2000. Wish I at least had a picture of it.

Here's my '57 Servi-Car "G" model, which came with the factory tow-bar, it was the last year with the springer front end...

Get an oxygen bottle c/w hose prop and pretend you're Piney Winston.
