I bought one of those white 5 gal buckets with a cover from Home Depot and throw all my old oil in there. When it's about 2/3 full I take it to thedump and dump it into a bigoil container theyhave. Works out pretty well.
Actually motor oil doesn't smell much. But, this past Halloween night, I was handing out candy to the kids. At about 9 pm, I get a knock at the door. I look out and think, "Damn, those kids have some realistic looking fireman costumes." Well, it was the fire department. The told me they were looking for a natural gas leak and had been looking for quite a while. They said they thought the leak may be coming from my house. First, I told them that I didn't have gas. We don't even have it in the neighborhood. Second, I told them what it was.....I had burned about a gallon of gear oil in the stove earlier that day. It was still kind of smoldering. The sulfur smell was hanging in the air, so it did smell like a gas leak.
