MotoTune's procedure all the way...did the 2017 Dyna on ride home from dealer...30/60/30 x10 in 3rd.

Better rings are a little more expensive.
I have no clue why people use the old crap anymore.

When I redid the top end on my evo I did the heat cycle thing per my machinist's instructions. New KB pistons and Hastings rings. Since he has been racing a basically hand built '39 Indian LSR bike for years (among many other things) I followed his advice to the letter. It had 10k on the top end and was running very well when I traded it in on the RK.

I would say go with the instructions that come with the ring set you are using.
