I just bought a 2013 V-Rod Muscle from a local seller on Craigslist, the bike looks and runs great, the only thing is the guy took out the stock exhaust innards and the end caps, he welded the end caps back on but the whole thing is hollow and makes enough noise to wake the dead..
now I don't mind that it sounds so beastly but I do live in a packed neighborhood and don't want to be completely inconsiderate of others.
So my question is, what is a good set of pipes that sound good? I prefer to have minimal noise while idling and even when moving a low speeds, that way I can get the bike out of my shed and on to the street without waking up everyone but obviously when I hit the throttle out on the highway or something I'd like there to be a nice rumble you know?
Any advice would be appreciated, I've never done a custom part on a bike before and this is only my second motorcycle
Heres my .02... Go to You tube and the mfg web sites... The mfg sites have sound clips. The youtube stuff isnt all 'hollywooded' and youll get a more honest interpretation...
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and helpful posts!
The guy I bought it from suggested the same thing, buying stock pipes, and I'm wondering if that would be the best and probably cheapest option.
In the meantime, I was browsing YouTube as per your suggestions and I came across a few mods that someone did to their V-Rod that I really liked.
This is the first one I've had as well as heard in person and its loud to the point that the sound waves are ripping through you.. not totally unpleasant but it would be nice to have more of a range other than Loud AF
I saw a couple of videos with some heavily modded V-Rods that had a really attractive low rumble while idling and almost a tiger like growling when given a bit of throttle, then to a full on roar when you really open it up.
Are there some slip ons that could do that or is that clarity only achievable through a full exhaust replacement?
On a side note: I talked to the guy I bought it from and asked him what he did and he said he just removed the baffles from the original muffler, but he welded it back and all that so I doubt i can do anything with the pipes that are on it now
